DEEP MAGIC
I agree that Joy Nash will remind the reader of Mary Stewart in DEEP MAGIC, when she tells of a period in history steeped in mystery and magic, for Nash seems to be dabbling in magic herself, as she makes the story live.
In a time of change in British history, when everyone must work together to save the peaceful Druids from extinction, Gwen, a rebel, is ready to abandon her duty as the next Guardian of the tiny band hiding on Avalon from the invading Romans, though her grandfather is so torn by terrible nightmares his control over the magic mist protecting the isle is weakening. But Gwen feels she must obey her dream vision in which the Lady commands her to make a magic sword to save Avalon.
Gwen knows to do this she will need Marcus, a Roman smithy, and close family friend, because he is the only one she trusts, and she must stay with him when the sword is being made, because he has no magic. And the whole thing can be a terrible risk to her, because she must use the forbidden Deep Magic, for her Light magic will not be enough, and she fears her strong alter ego, a silver wolf will take over, because Deep Magic controls that change, and she could become trapped in that body... forever.
